Typhoons

America. In Asia they are called typhoons (in Chinese, "tai" - large, "Feng" - the wind). They occur over the tropics and fly north along the coasts of China and the islands of the Philippines and Japan. In America, they are formed in the Caribbean Sea and cover the southern and eastern coast of the United States. These hurricanes raid with terrible force, pull out the trees, felled telephone poles, rip the roof and light construction, they are accompanied by torrential rain, and on the beach - the surf, which floods the coast for several kilometers deep. The consequences of the typhoon - always great material losses, the loss of animal and human debris killed or drowned. These tropical storms occur most often in the summer over the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean, where water is heated by the sun gives its heat to the air. The diameter of such a hurricane can reach 900 kilometers. At the heart of every tropical cyclone, a region of very low pressure with high temperature. This so-called "eye of the typhoon." Its diameter is eleven kilometers. It is quiet, and around, spinning clockwise, plagued by high winds. "The eye of typhoon" or "eye of the storm" introduces sometimes confusing people who got there from the area where the raging hurricane and surging huge water trees. Thinking that the typhoon has passed, inexperienced sailors relax and forget about the danger. Such carelessness is costly for them. Swift continues whirlwind of motion and again, "falls on the ship: blows sailors from the deck, breaking tackles. One of the strongest hurricanes destroyed on Sept. 8, 1900 small American port city of Galveston, which was located on the long and narrow, sandy spit of Galveston Bay in the Gulf of Mexico. The island rose above sea level not higher than 1,5 meters. In the morning, the day of the disaster was a heavy rain. Towards evening a violent storm. Giant wave with a speed of 200 kilometers per hour flooded the streets and roads. Telegraph poles fell, houses were destroyed, killing many people. Seven hours storm subsided, but Galveston was finished. Cozy town turned into a heap of ruins. Killed 6000 people. Many remain missing. In 1959, a typhoon swept over the Japanese city of Nagoya. In rebel water lost 5300 persons. But perhaps the most powerful hurricane, befell the planet, huffed in November 1970 in the Bay of Bengal, which is located in the Indian Ocean. Arisen over the bay typhoon headed for the mouth of the river Ganges. Under pressure - the water of the river flowed in the opposite direction. The flood covered 800,000 square kilometers of land. For comparison, we can say that the territory of Germany, three times less and is about 250 thousand kilometers. In this disaster killed nearly 300,000 people. Over time, people began to seek ways to protect against hurricane winds. Each suspicious cluster of clouds immediately photographed by satellite and transmitted to Earth. Aircraft Meteorological Service of flying squirrels in the typhoon. The collected information in it is put into the computer to calculate a route and duration of the hurricane. This is done in order to advance to notify the public of an impending hurricane.
