Volcanoes of Central France

To the south of it lies below it Cantal Mont Dora (1861 meters), but covers a huge area. Finally, further south is the third small volcano Canton d'Aubrac. These remnants of the Tertiary volcanoes does not matter to us, as our goal - to trace the recent volcanic phenomena. Two series of recently enacted volcanoes, called Le Puy, located to the north-east of Mont Dora. They go from north to south and are about 40 characteristics of craters - some of the basalt, partly trahitovyh. Some of them threw the significant flows of lava. In addition, here we find the dome, whose crater is missing. This - ancient volcanic mountains, volcanic eruptions which are, apparently, to the Tertiary period. Part formed by loose products were washed out over time. The most remarkable representative of this group is the Puy de Dome. Some craters are given at the foot of the crack, throwing lava flows, some filled now with water and form a picturesque lake. In contrast to most examined so far the cases, the volcanoes of the Auvergne are located in considerable distance from the sea; believe that verhnetretichnuyu era there existed large freshwater lake. Presence in the area of ??Tertiary volcanic explained such an assumption, but it is difficult to assume that these lakes existed during the later eruptions. Anyway, we should not lose sight that volcanoes are considered removed from the sea, no more than Popocatepetl, and less than a volcano of Tolima in America. To the east of the famous volcanic region of Auvergne are the ruins of the Tertiary volcanic craters and Mezen localities Vele and Vivare, here we find more than a hundred holes through which ejected the igneous mass.
