From the volcanoes of molten lava poured out and brought to the surface of finely granulated material, a so-called volcanic ash, through the accumulation of eruptive products erected conical mountains, often very considerable height. This so-called bulk of the mountain. Where several volcanoes occur together, may form the whole group them of course, not only the way of their origin, but all the characteristic properties are significantly different from the properties of those mountains, which owe their origin to discharges and folds. Such important phenomena as the formation of mountain ranges or entire subsidence of the earth's crust along the lines of fracture, back down on its value to the background, if we compare them with those great processes which mainly determine the terrain and the earth's surface that are required to continents and seas. In resolving this issue geologists split into two opposing camps: some suggest that the distribution of land and sea in different geological periods subject to significant change, while others, on the contrary, think that, despite the existence of local changes in the overall distribution of continents and seas, remains constant since ancient times. With regard to the distribution of land and water is another question: not yet decided whether subject to the continents slowly heave, or the phenomena on which we infer the existence of such processes as, for example, the position of the ancient shoreline above the modern sea ??level should be attributed to the secular variations of the sea.
