Other volcanoes in Italy

All the volcanoes of the peninsula, volcanic eruptions which occurred after the Tertiary period, are located in a straight line, the exception is only one volcano. This line runs parallel to the Apennines, along the shore of the Tyrrhenian Sea, north-west to south-east. On the north side is the extreme member of a number of Monte Amiata in Radicofani, it lies on the border of Tuscany with the church area. This threw a huge pile of previously powerful streams of lava trahitovoy, but now the crater it is impossible to determine. Monte Amiata notes is the northern limit of lava in Italy: the north-east of it only visible traces of volcanic activity, the latter expressed here the existence of hot springs and solfatar, they occur in Volterra, and in some other places and enjoy great popularity due to the presence of boric acid in emissions of products. To the south-west of Monte Amiata is a huge crater lake Bolsenskogo on the ring that stretched Montefyaskone town, followed by Chimi-niyskie mountains with few craters, Lake Brachchyano also fills the ancient crater, and a number of small volcanoes located north of Rome; general in the Roman Campagna know a lot of small volcanic cones. To the south-west of the eternal city tower famous of all extinct volcanic mountains of Italy, of Albany (see map in Fig. 172). They stand among the picturesque surrounding plains, and represent a huge crater, the height of it, however, is negligible, and gentle slopes. Ring Tuskulanskih mountains stretches for 18 km starting above Frascati, it goes by Rocca Priora to Monte Cheraza, then turns to the Monte Veskova and ends with a mountain Artemisia in Lago di Nemi. This long range of hills is not a complete ring, on the western side recently, apparently tumbled: here are three small crater: two of them are filled with water and form lakes Alban and Nemi, the third, Ariccia, deprived of water. In the middle of this huge ring of towering inner crater, it can be compared to the Vesuvius, which is also located among the rings of the Somme, is a central ring Alban hills is also open to the west, inside it is plain, the so-called "Camp of Hannibal", this is the bottom of an ancient lake that lies at 190 m below the highest point of Monte Alban hills Cavo (954 m),
