Meteorite from l'Eglya in Normandy

In places far distant from each other, in Caen, Falaise, Pont AUDEMER, Verneuil, and Alencon, was seen in the clear sky a fireball, he quickly moved from southeast to northwest. Soon afterwards a loud explosion was heard: it was heard for thirty miles in France for 5 - 6 minutes for an explosion followed by several cannon strikes, they moved to a volley of rifles and ended in a roar of many drums. Meteor no longer seemed like a fireball, but as is often the case (eg, in Siena in 1794, the Princess of Hungary in 1866), he was surrounded by smoke and had a kind of clouds form of the latter represented by a rectangle, the larger side which was directed from east to west. The cloud that seemed fixed (it was moving toward the viewer), and only a couple of which it consisted, next explosion scattered in different directions. Apparently, the cloud is 1 / 2 mile from l'Eglya, toward the northwest at a very considerable height, residents of two areas, separated from each other on the whole French mile, saw him at the zenith at the same time. Throughout the area over which the cloud was, heard noise like the whistling stones being thrown from a sling, the Earth will cast a huge number of meteorites (3000), the area covered by them, represented by an ellipse, the length of 21 / g of miles and a width of 1 mile. The largest stones gathered on the southeast end of the ellipse, the finest in the north-west, the rest in the middle. Despite the huge number nizvergnuvshihsya stones, none of them had any significant weight: the largest weighed 11 / 2 fundamental. And very little about 2 lots. Phenomena similar to those described were observed in densely populated areas and excited universal interest: since ancient times, we have information about them, as for an explanation of meteorites, the ancient superstitious people attributed their supernatural power.
