At six o'clock in the morning the ground several times severely shaken. Strong tremors lasted less than a minute. But the hour was enough. Boom town turned into a heap of ruins. Then they began to hear people screaming and trampling rabid horses who rushed to the streets littered with debris. But this was only the beginning of trouble. In the city, in several places, broke out fires. Three days the fire raged in the ruined city. Firefighters had nothing to extinguish them: water supply was destroyed. Constantly emerging new sources of ignition. Residents of the city, remained without a roof over his head, fanning the fires directly in the ruins. This often led to new fires. During the earthquake that struck San Francisco, killing 700 people and 250,000 homeless. This is one of the most devastating disasters in the history of our civilization.
