Basic concepts of geology

Let us imagine that by this or that process, it will raise or lower the land of the sea, moved part of the seabed. Immediately the rain, cold, running water and other natural forces begin to work towards its destruction. Assume further that the creek or river bed in his proroyut risen from the sea of ??rocks. On each side of the channel formed bare a number lying on each other horizontal layers, and the lowest of them will again be the oldest in age. Carefully examining the rocks bare to the riverbanks, often can be found in these fossils of plants and animals that lived during the epoch of the latest rainfall and enthusiastic. Time of formation of fossils and the formation, in which they are obviously the same thing. Age of the rocks is determined by their sequence arranged on each other, we can conclude that the fossils, found in the lower layers, belong to the more ancient organisms, and those contained in the layers located above represent the remnants of the later population of the earth. No matter how simple this fact, its value before it is extremely important, it gives us an opportunity to judge the succession of living beings on earth, and from descriptions of individual fossils go to a coherent presentation of the history of the organic world. The basis of such studies is the systematic collection of fossils showing the sequence of strata in which they reside.
